“Bury me with this foundation because its my holy grave”
Hey my weirdos 🙂
Guess what? I collaborated today as well. Damn Dhanusha, slow down. My first collaboration went down yesterday and I am back at it. (this was planned a while ago)
Anyway, today I am collaborating with Breanne from Breanna Martin Blog.
Breanne has the most stunning blog and does reviews on so many great products. After seeing her blog and reading her work I knew I had to follow her and work with her. She will be reviewing her current Favourite Drugstore foundation. If you have not seen her social media check it out below:
I am going to be reviewing my favourite medium to full coverage high-end foundation. For light to sheer coverage I use Mac Face and Body. I have combination skin and minimal blemishes to hide so it works really well. If you would like a review on this do let me know. My holy grail foundation is MAC Studio Sculpt. Now I am aware the Studio Fix is the biggest seller of MAC foundations but it is probably because most people don’t know that this is the fullest coverage MAC foundation. I do not need full coverage but I do use a small amount and if I need to build up I can.
Product claim:
A luxurious, creamy foundation that delivers ultimate hydration while instantly revitalizing the look of dull and dry skin. Innovative gel-based system provides outstanding skin feel and medium to full buildable coverage with a natural satin finish. Micronized silicone-coated pigments improve skin adherence and blendability while helping to maintain colour purity. Offers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection with SPF 15. Comfortable on all skin types, but especially suited for normal-dry and mature skin.
Price:
40ml/1.3 US fl oz for R470 in South Africa. $34 in the United States. (Remember to only purchase from a MAC store)
Packaging:
Studio Sculpt comes in a clear plastic tube and it is quite easy to travel with. I had a terrible experience with MAC Studio Fix Fluid, it actually fell out of my bag and shattered into pieces while still almost completely full. I wanted to die. I like this packaging better considering I am high-risk. It has a black rubberized cap that can get dirty easily. It might look weird with a pump. I make sure not to squeeze out too much product as you cannot place it back in. It looks quite chic and elegant and I don’t mind it as I often need to do make up on the go.
Texture
This is a gel- based and creamy consistency. It is not too thick or too runny. It is water based. The finish is dewy and natural and it almost feels like a second skin. Although it is full coverage it does not feel heavy on the skin. I dot a very small amount and blend out with a sponge and it covers my full face easily. If you want more coverage using a brush would be better. This settles down to a matte finish and provides a very natural look.
Coverage
The gel like formula gives me medium to full coverage and is buildable. It is super pigmented and a tiny amount really does cover the entire face. The formula is quite hydrating due to its’ moisturising ingredients such as shea butter and glycerin. I do not have much to hide on my face so I only apply one layer and have full coverage. It can be layered on and still look flawless. I do set my face with a bit of Kryolan Translucent banana powder but you can set it with any good powder. This makes sure my T-zone does not get oily and keeps the matte finish.
Staying power
Studio Sculpt literally lasts the entire day on the face. I kid you not, I mean like 12 hours. I do not have to blot throughout the day and my face does not get shiny. I am utterly impressed with the staying power, I usually remove it with micellar water. It has SPF 15 in it as well which protects you from harmful UV rays. It is also water resistant.
My experience with MAC Studio Sculpt foundation
I have been using this foundation for quite some time now. I have tried many foundations and this is the one I feel really does all that it claims too. Even in the rain I know I can trust it. The one other top favourite of mine is Nars tinted moisturiser but it is way too expensive to import. Now although I do not need full coverage I do colour correct pretty much every time I wear make up and it is necessary to use a medium to full coverage to cover the colour correctors. For every event or long day I know I can count on this foundation, it stays perfect and I do not need to touch up. I am not one of those people that carry powders or foundations when I am out. I only carry lipstick and perfume for the cosmetics department. (small bag problems) People also assume that I am not wearing base as it looks so natural on the skin. I am in love with this foundation and it lasts 3 years from the date of manufacturing, also it is 40ml. A little goes such a long way this may last me the full 3 years.
It never creases or looks cakey on the skin. It is perfect for dry skin which I tend towards more in winter. It evens out my skin tone and makes me look radiant. I think this is the key to getting that flawless airbrush effect we all love. You do still need to moisturize well, this is what I use. It does have SPF as well. It covers so well and blends like a dream. It is comfortable on all skin types but especially normal to dry skin. It matches me perfectly and does oxidize much at all.
Final thoughts
A good base is the utmost important part of your make up. If you are not sure how to choose the right one you can read about that here.It is a moisture rich formula that hydrates dry and flaky skin instantly. The gel based formula product stays on our skin for a very long duration. I recommend this for normal to dry skin. It is worth the price in my opinion and is more of an investment as it will last you quite some time. I rate this a 9.5/10. I just do not like how messy the cap can get. Otherwise you can catch me wearing this in my holy grave, this is my holy grail!
Here is a picture of me wearing this foundation with all my make up done.
Head over to Breanne’s post about her favourite drugstore – L’Oréal True Match foundation here.
Stay flawless weirdos(atleast on the outside),

Great post Dee !
your skin looks flawless! but then again.. it is flawless without makeup too 🙂
Thank you.
No not really. My dark circles are really bad and I do have pigmentation around my mouth
Loved it hun! Always been curious about this one but read that it’s suitable for dry skin and as you know I’m an oily girl! So im not sure if it’s worth trying? Perhaps I should try and get a sample just to test it out. It looks stunning on you but you have good skin so you done need much coverage. Thanks for the detailed post love. Mwah!
Thank you 😊 glad you enjoyed it. Perhaps get a sample and try it out. Set it with powder and see how it holds up. Studio fix fluid does work better for oily skin maybe try both.
It looks lovely on you…so natural. I’ve never used MAC foundations before. I’m a combination girl. Asking mac for samples….I’d rather not. Those girls…..they just rub me up the wrong way. lol
Try Mac at a Foschini or Egdars not the actual Mac stand alone store. I would complain if they give me bad service though.
Interesting….never thought of going beyond the studio fix
Thank you for the tip hun.
🤗
If Studio fix works for you then it may not be necessary for this one 😊 pleasure
Studio Fix is my holy grail, I’m an oily girl so I think im going to ask for a sample the next time I go to a MAC store to see if it holds up. Fabulous review as always.
I get oily on my T zone and this holds up fine. Studio fix is great as well I just like this finish better and it doesn’t oxidize. Definitely try it out. Thank you 😊
Great in depth review. I reiterate all the previous comments – this simply looks flawless! Which brush do you use to blend this foundation out?
Thank you so much. I prefer to use a beauty blender. You can use a buffing brush.
Great review ! Your skin looks flawless 😍😍😍.
I’ve never really tried anything other than Studio Fix as I thought it would work best on my skin – but I’m definitely going to try this out 🙆🏻🙆🏻🙆🏻
Thank you for this 👆🏽
Thank you ☺ much appreciated. Let me know when you try it and what you think of it.
I’ve heard really good things about this foundation and you just confirmed them all! I love that Studio Sculpt seriously last ALL DAY. Great post and review!
I use Studio Fix but find it quite cakey…perhaps this will work better for me!
Your skin is flawless!!
I’ve heard great things about this foundation! I’m usually a NARS girl but….you might have swayed me! Thanks for the very informative post. X
Worth a try 😊 Nars is amazing though. Thank you
I’m so impressed with the amount of detail that you put into this review! If I didn’t already know that Mac products don’t match my undertone at all, this would have totally convinced me that I need to try out their foundations. Great post! ❤
I love this detailed review! I’ve never tried this foundation; I love Studio Fix. Now I am tempted to try it.
Nice review 🙂
