Dermalogica Sounds Sleep Cocoon Review & Giveaway

Hi weirdos,
Last month I was invited to the launch of the Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon and we were taught about the benefits of sleep as well as how your skin restores itself throughout the night. Are you aware that sleep problems affect 45% of the worlds population? If you sleep poorly, your skin is likely to suffer too. Missing a few nights of sleep can lead to dull skin, fine lines and chrloonic sleep deprivation leads to dark circles and early aging. So, beauty sleep is not a myth?

“Not sleeping increases your cortisol levels and puts your skin in a pro-inflammatory state. Poor sleep will cause your skin looks sullen, and you may experience puffiness around the eyes if you’re retaining water.” According to Dr. Gohara: “Its important to respect the sleep-beauty connection.”

Generally I get enough sleep but as soon as exam season comes around, stress levels increase and time for sleep decreases. Luckily, Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon revitalizing treatment gel-cream transforms skin overnight by optimizing night-time skin recovery. According to Dermalogica, “Tamarind seed extract creates a nourishing cocoon of comfort for softer, more hydrated skin while encapsulated, motion-activated French-lavender essential oil (with Sandalwood and Patchouli) work all night to promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin by morning. Other key ingredients include Persian Silk-tree extract which reduces signs of skin fatigue and restores vitality while Wu-Zhu-Yu extract provides visibly radiant skin by the a.m.”
Ingredients: Water/Aqua/Eau, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Propanediol, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Sodium Chloride, Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract, Lavandula Hybrida Abrial Herb Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit Extract, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Tamarindus Indica Seed Polysaccharide, Dipropylene Glycol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fusanus Spicatus Wood Oil, Pogostemon Cablin Leaf Oil, Sodium Citrate, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Hexanediol, Polyurethane Crosspolymer-1, Limonene, Tocopherol, Citric Acid, Linalool, Phenoxyethanol

Packaging: The circular packaging of this product uses a twist pump function to release the product; it’s quite innovative. Essential oils contained in the Sound Sleep Cocoon can react with oxygen causing oxidation but this nifty packaging prevents that. It is also lightweight and travel friendly.
Price: R1295 for 50ml that gives you 95 uses! The Sound Sleep Cocoon will last you just over 3 months if you use it every day.
Thoughts on the Dermalogica sound sleep cocoon: It has a lightweight gel consistency that is absorbed into the skin almost immediately. Once applied, you feel it soothing the skin and smell the essential oils, which made me quite sleepy. This is meant is to be the last step in your beauty routine and lock in the other products used before hence the term “cocoon”. I do fall asleep much quicker than before and notice my skin glow more in the morning. In winter my skin tends to get drier but I wake up with more hydrated skin after the night using my Sound Sleep Cocoon.

How to apply: Dermalogica has a preferred method of how you should apply the Sound Sleep Cocoon. You can watch that here.

Tips for better sleep:

  • Turn off all electronics (even your phone, unless you reading my blog, jokes!) and dim the lights 30 minutes before bedtime.
  • Make your room as dark as possible and slightly cool at bedtime.
  • Avoid alcohol (but wine?), sugar, caffeine before bed, rather drink decaffeinated teas like chamomile.
  • Breathe deeply as it calms your body and use essential oils like lavender and sandalwood or you can just use your Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon.
  • Stick to a sleeping schedule.
  • In the morning seek out bright light (not from your phone).

Dermalogica has a web app that can help you fall asleep check it out here: Sound sleep cocoon widget. It’s really helpful, I do suggest you try it out.

  43. […] Hi weirdos, One of favourite products for 2018 is definitely the Dermalogica BioLumin-C Serum. My skin concerns are pigmentation, dark circles, hydration and anti-aging and I feel like this is a magical concoction that answers all of my prayers. I know this review is months late but I have posted about it on my social media so I am sure you have must have seen it if you follow me. Vitamin C serums have been growing ever popular as they have a number of benefits. It fights sun damage caused by free radicals as it is rich in antioxidants. One of its benefits I noticed on my skin was its ability to reduce pigmentation and improve evenness of my complexion. Another property of Vitamin C is its hydrating capability which helps the skin to retain moisture. We went to Knysna over the festive period and I really felt like my skin became very dry and overexposed to the sun. Since I got back I started using this Biolumin-c serum and it has made a world of a difference. My hydration levels picked up and overall my skin feels more plum and radiant. With consistent use of the Biolumin-c serum I have seen my dark circles improve and my complexion brighten. In fact, people have just been telling me my skin is glowing, it means the product is really working if other people notice it too! The main ingredients in the Biolumin-c serum are lactic acid which helps aid cells turn over for brighter and more hydrated skin, Sophora japonica flower extracts that calms skin and combats oxidative stress and Salvia hispanica (chia seed) oil hydrates which prevents free radical damage. Another great benefit of vitamin c is its ability to boost collagen production and we could all use some anti-aging right? Collagen production is linked to firmness and elasticity. Biolumin-c high concentration of vitamin c helps make the skin become firmer and it has a tightening effect. It also helps with reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The Dermalogic biolumin-c serum is packaged in a beautiful white glass bottle with a dropper. The reason for this is vitamin c can be very unstable, in this way it makes it less susceptible to oxidation and easy to apply. It has a refreshing citrus scent that isn’t too strong; I quite like it. The consistency of the liquid is not too runny and it absorbs quite quickly into the skin. Biolumin-c serum 30ml can be bought for R1 495 which should last 6 weeks if used morning and evening. You can find it on the Dermalogica online store or any Dermalogica stockist. You would cleanse, tone and then apply your biolumin-c serum, thereafter apply your moisturiser and be sure to apply SPF. Let me know if you have tried this product and what you think of it?
