Hi weirdos, due to the COVID-19 outbreak it has been advised that we all practice some social distancing to slow-down the spread of the virus. Logically, we should be using this time to be productive, but there’s nothing wrong with binge watching some series in-between. Below are five acclaimed shows that I recommend you indulge in while you’re nestled up at home during this time of social distancing.
Boardwalk Empire – 57 episodes (2010 – 2014)
Set in the Atlantic City during the Prohibition era, Boardwalk Empire follows the bootlegging exploits of Enoch Thompson as he capitalises on the illegal trade of alcohol. This drama brought to you by HBO, features a high quality set design, stellar acting performances and a thrilling story that’ll leave you shocked and on the edge of your seat.
Halt and Catch Fire – 40 episodes (2014 – 2017)
Coding in the 80s was a unique and interesting time that showcased some incredible ideas still prevalent in today’s technical society. Halt and Catch Fire, produced by AMC, is a great fictitious rendition of the cutthroat and stressful nature of what it took to make it in the tech world during this time. Just 40 episodes long, this drama takes you through an exhilarating journey of four driven but heard-headed geniuses trying to make their mark on the technical world.
Bosch – 50 episodes (2014 – present)
An ode to good old fashioned cop shows of the 80s and 90s, Detective Harry Bosch of Hollywood Homicide traverses the crime ridden streets of L.A. while dealing with severe childhood trauma. This Amazon Original is an ideal straightforward crime show that’ll leave you glued to the screen as the heard-edged does what he can to bring justice to the streets, even if it means going off book from time to time.
The Wire – 60 episodes (2002 – 2008)
Considered by many to be the best show in the history of television, The Wire, brought to you by HBO, approaches the crime genre in a unique way by focusing on the cop’s and the drug dealer’s sides of the story. Set in the hardened streets of Baltimore, it follows the tough lives of those forced to lead a life of crime to survive and the law enforcement required to bring them down, sometimes not entirely by the book.
Homeland – 96 episodes (2011-2020)
Carrie Mathison is a dedicated CIA agent who has an attentive eye for individuals who pose a risk to national security, all the while struggling to cope with her bipolar disorder. Covered over eight seasons by Showtime, this crime thriller keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with an intricate story that twists and turns through espionage and betrayal.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I do. Let me know if you have already watched any of these? Maybe I will post another five I enjoy…
Stay home, wash your hands and be safe.
Until next post,
