The Wacky Wine Weekend will be returning to the Robertson Wine Valley for the 16th time on the 7th – 9th of June this year. The winter festival has become an established event among wine connoisseurs, amateurs, families and friends travelling from far and wide. This festival has always been on my list because it seems the most fun!
This year’s offerings include 30 established wineries and tourism services in the Ashton, Bonnivale, McGregor and Robertson region. Those partaking will have their cellar doors open to showcase their finest selection of vintages.
For the wine enthusiasts, you’ll get the opportunity to savour award winning wines through cellar tours, barrel tastings, pairings and interactive tastings by notable winemakers. You’ll also get to blend your own unique creation or disgorge your own bottle of Methode Cap Classique. For those who want to explore the academic side of wine, there are intricate master wine tasting classes for beginner and experienced wine connoisseurs. Tours of historical underground cellars, boutique wine farms and family owned estates are available too.
There’ll be delicious food available as well. The Winemaker’s Dinners will be in full swing with fires to warm up the cold winter setting. Farm style breakfasts sourced from fresh produce and family recipe dishes will kick the mornings off and will be followed by hearty soups, roosterkoeke and potjies. There’s an opportunity to taste award winning olive oil and olives with freshly baked bread for those who just want to tickle the palate.
Your entry will cost R200 per person and R150 for pensioners from Howler. The passport includes a wine glass, six digital wine tasting coupons per winery and a bottle of mineral water. To know more about the festival, visit their website: www.wackywineweekend.com.
Last year I had the pleasure of going to the wine on the river festival also in Robertson and fell in love with the area. Being only about a two hour drive from Cape Town, it’s a must visit wine valley for any wine lover. There are so many fantastic wine estates, wines and extraordinary views in Robertson.
