Dear weirdos,
Another restaurant review, did I tell you I love food? But you can win so don’t salivate too much at these pictures. Mantra Café combines chic dining with a perfect ocean view.
Some of the top chill spots in Cape Town are the restaurants and bars on Camps Bay’s Victoria road. That’s why this is the perfect location for Mantra Café which recently achieved the first spot on TripAdvisor’s top 10 restaurants in Camps Bay beach front.
We were invited to try out some of their dishes and experience what it is that customers love so much about this beautiful restaurant. There is a neutral light colour palette decor featuring local carpenters, craftsmen and artists with copper pieces and wooden structures. The ambiance presented by Mantra Café’s setting is one of an airy and relaxed feel. With the unmatched views of the Camp bay beach through it’s pretty glass exterior, it’s the perfect spot.
At the entrance to Mantra Café is a little boutique where one can view a range of gourmet food products, unique homeware and gifts.
For starters I had the Rockstar salad because you know I am a rockstar (jokes). I never order a salad, you should know that by now. But salads are the only option for starters for vegetarians. I am not complaining because this is the best damn salad I have ever had. It has all my favourite things: Blue cheese, preserved green figs, sundried tomato, olives, cucumber and parmesan croutons. They removed the bacon for me. The pungent blue cheese and the sweet preserved green figs work so well in contrast. The olives gave it flavour and the cucumber some freshness. It’s priced at R95 but with those ingredients it makes sense and it’s quite filling. It’s definitely the rockstar of all salads.
There is one vegetarian main meal but you can swop out some ingredients on the other menu items. There are also some vegetarian pizza options which I want to try next. I ordered the Aubergine Parmigiana (R115) from the main meals. It’s slow-cooked aubergine, Italian tomatoes, mozzarella, parmesan and fresh basil. In other words, it’s a mouthful of heaven that will leave you wanting more. I am a sucker for aubergine bakes, it’s something we make at home so when you see it on the menu and it’s even better then it’s pure happiness. The tangy tomato that melts with the cheeses to give you a burst of flavour with the basil that finishes the flavour well. I would definitely order this again! Such a heart-warming winter dish served in a sizzling pan.
I was spoiled for choice when it came to dessert, there are nine desserts. I went with the Ice Cream Sundae which was super decadent. Made with peanut butter ice cream, homemade caramel sauce, chocolate ganache and caramelized popcorn. This is definitely the dish that knocked me off my feet – I would like some right now! I love caramel like Kim loves Kanye. The chocolate ganache and peanut butter balanced it off so it was crazy sweet. The popcorn gave that crunchiness and texture – I felt like a kid again. For R65, it definitely beats any other dessert.
They have a great selection of wines, cocktails and even breakfast cocktails. Now we’re talking! It’s a great spot for sun-downers after work, dinner with friends/family, a romantic date or the best breakfast with an ocean view.
I really felt welcomed at Mantra cafe. It ticks all the boxes for a restaurant for me. This is definitely the number one spot on the beachfront as I have actually been to everywhere on the strip. They have some ridiculous winter specials at the moment you need to check out here.
