ColourPop Pressed Powders First Impressions

Hi my weirdos,
I did my first photo shoot this past Sunday as some of you may have seen on my Instagram. Man, was it freaking freezing! I had no idea what I got myself into but there were some epic shots to make up for my suffering. If you want a blog post about this please let me know in the comments.

I also tried these ColourPop Pressed Powders for the first time. These were sent to me by the lovely Yolanda from StunnersSlayUnique blog. If you have not heard of ColourPop, where have you been? They are an awesome affordable cruelty-free brand manufactured in the U.S. The same factory as Kylie Cosmetics is made as a matter of fact. They are well known for their liquid lipsticks and highlighters but they have a wide range of products. If you want to read about their liquid lippies click here.
Let’s get to the good stuff…
I have 3 beautiful shades, 2 mattes, and 1 shimmer. The shimmer shade is “Pinky Promise” and the matte shades are “Going Steady” and “Get Out.” Don’t these names remind you of your last relationship, or is it just me? Just kidding.
Pinky Promise is a gorgeous metallic wine colour. This pairs so well with a glass of wine in my hand.

Pinky Promise

Going Steady is described as a matte dusty wine. Is it obvious yet that I have a minor wine addiction?

Get out is a cool cranberry matte shade.

Get Out

Packaging:  These come in a cute little white cardboard with silver stars on it as well as the ColourPop logo. I am a sucker for anything with stars on it. They are quite securely fitted into plastic holders that allow them to pop off easily. They could be placed in your Z palette for easy storage.

Size: Net weight is 1.2g/ 0.042 oz (under pan)
Price: $5 on the Colourpop website in the U.S. R120 from Yolanda, I will leave her details below.
My first impression of these shadows:
Get Out
Right off the bat, you can see this is a stunning colour, perfect for these winter months. I used this in my crease and towards the inner part of my eye to create a halo eyeshadow effect. I found this to be quite pigmented. It applied evenly and was a breeze to blend. I used a tapered blending brush as well as a flat eyeshadow brush. It is quite soft and velvety to the touch. There is minor fallout, I expect fallout from all shadows but this is not much. I did go in about 4-5 times or so while creating this look but this is because I wanted it to be bold for this shoot. Also, it was my first time creating this look. I was not quite sure what to expect from these mattes as I know mattes are quite tricky to perfect but I was impressed.

Pinky Promise
I am in love with this wine shimmery colour. It added a perfect amount of shimmer on my outer corner that I wanted for this look. It is buttery and smooth and quite pigmented. I can see myself using this a lot as I am more of a shimmer person. Not only did it swatch beautifully but it applies effortlessly, it really blends well. This had no fallout or kick back. I would even use this shade on its own, it is that stunning, paired with a burgundy lippie this would be quite a great look. This is supposed to be a good dupe for Huda Beauty Fling from the Rose Gold palette.
You can see the colour comparisons on YouTube
Going Steady
I did not use this shade. I have only swatched it and it feels very soft and buttery. It is a dupe for ABH Modern Renaissance Love Letter. I will update this post later on after I use this shade.

Overall thoughts:
These shadows were applied around 8 am and I did this shoot in water and did get wet. But they lasted pretty well, all the way to 9 pm or so when I eventually took off my make up. I did prime my lids with LA Girl Concealer and Kryolan banana powder as usual. I did also use a setting spray. In comparison to the Morphe matte shadows (comparing these as the price point is similar), these are definitely more pigmented. The shimmer shade is great as well, it does “pop” more with a bit of fixing spray but even on its own, it has a great payoff. I love how long lasting they are and how easy they are to work with. If you are a beginner this is great for you as you don’t get an intense pigment that would be hard to blend but you can always add more as you need. It is definitely worth the price point. Since I have a few I am thinking of getting a few more and a magnetic palette to make up my own eyeshadow palette. They have a huge variety of shades to choose from. I am keen to try more.
Here are some pictures of the look created. ( I used a Sleek eyeshadow that was gold with pink tones for the middle)
