Hi weirdos, sadly enough it’s still winter. Usually, around this time we need to switch up our skincare routines. I don’t know which province or country you may be reading this from but I can tell you fact, it’s cold AF in Cape town. This usually means dry awful lips. We cannot be walking around with chapped lips so I am sharing some affordable lip balms so we can all have lovely lip-smacking lips together. Might I just add that you need to exfoliate your lips as well in order to get rid of dead skin cells.
Labello Med Repair
This has been a favourite of mine for a while now because it’s the most cost-effective. It provides long-lasting hydration and has SPF 15. It protects against UVA and UVB rays protecting your lips. The main ingredient is nourishing Vitamin E (Wheatgerm Oil); providing intensive care and moisture.
My lips look soft and smooth whenever I apply this. I only need to reapply after a few hours. It has a bit of a thicker consistency but feels light upon application. Labello Med Repair has no colour to it which is great to wear even under your lipsticks. It retails for around R28 at Clicks and Dischem stores.
The new improved formula has eucalyptus oil which has a lovely scent but I do find it last a few hours and you need to reply. Nonetheless its quite effective on the lips and makes my lips look plumper.
Blistex Lip Serum
The iconic Blistex DCT lip balm is a must-have for everyone so when I was sent to try this Blistex Lip Serum I was excited to try it. Quite different from other lip balms I have tried, it has a pump bottle that dispenses the product. The serum is white and the dispenser works with pressure if you press it gently it should release less product which is great; because it has a white tinge to it. You can get rid of the whiteness as you purse your lips together a few times but this is why I prefer to use it under lipsticks or at night.
I find it quite nourishing, it has intense hydration but you may not like the texture as it is more like a tacky cream. Once you get past that, the black cherry scent will have you back for more. It retails for around R120 in major retail stores.
Kikibeauty Rose Lip Balm
Kikibeauty is a local cruelty-free brand that I have always raved about. They are between drugstore and high end but when it comes to skincare I have to say they do a stellar job. This rose lip balm has been become a favourite of mine and I always have it on me. It’s almost like a gloss but thicker and I use it as an overnight lip mask. It smells like roses and stays on my lips for long periods of time.
It has a slight baby pink tint and looks great on the lips but if you don’t like the feeling of gloss this won’t be for you. I honestly think this a product that lasts the longest on my lips in terms of hydration. Containing rose wax, jojoba seed oil, cocoa butter and Vitamin E, it’s just fabulous. It retails for around R180 but the usually have some sort of sale online.
